
KSU Rallies Past Liberty in 5 Sets

KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State overcame a 2-1 deficit, rallying to win the final two sets in a 3-2 (25-22, 18-25, 23-25, 25-13, 16-14) victory over Liberty, Saturday at KSU convocation center.
CUSA newcomer KSU improves to 7-11 on the season, including a 4-3 conference record with its third straight win. Liberty (10-7, 4-1) sustained its first conference loss of the season after starting CUSA play at 4-0. Both Liberty (Oct. 5) and KSU (Oct. 9) beat Jax State in five sets in their last match entering this weekend.

- Manu Johnsen led all players with 19 kills, adding 12 digs and four blocks. Kiernan Stamey recorded nine kills and four blocks, while Maggie Butkovich totaled nine kills. Caroline Chastang registered eight kills and 14 digs, while Olivia Burrage posted a match-high nine blocks. Kourtney Brown dished out 24 assists, while Leah Freeman collected 15 digs.
- Kamryn Bacus scored a team-high 14 kills for Liberty, adding four blocks. Kate Gammer registered 11 kills and 10 digs, while Madison Blane posted 10 kills and seven blocks. Autumn Flowers and Elizabeth Helmich scored eight kills each, while Charli Morris dished out a match-high 25 assists and Erica Lowery collected a match-best 17 digs.
- KSU used a 10-0 run late in set four, pulling away for a 25-13 win to send the match to a fifth set.
- The Owls led by as many as three points in the fifth set, but Liberty battled back into ties at 12-12 (Aubrey Acheson ace), 13-13 (Bacus kill) and 14-14 (KSU service error). A Liberty attack error gave KSU its second match-point try, which Stamey cashed in with a kill.
- Liberty saw its five-match winning streak snapped, its longest winning streak since opening the 2023 season with a 7-0 record.
- Kennesaw State leads the all-time series against Liberty, 14-1, including 8-0 in KSU Convocation Center. The Lady Flames won the most recent matchup before today, sweeping the Owls 3-0 on Sept. 30, 2022 in Liberty Arena. Liberty and KSU were both members of the ASUN Conference together from 2018-22 seasons.
