Flames Start Busy October Schedule at FGCU Hosted Event

The Flames will begin a packed October schedule this weekend when they participate in The Island at West Bay Club Collegiate Invitational, starting Sunday.
The two-day, 54-hole event is hosted by former ASUN Conference foe FGCU at West Bay Club (par 72, 6,960 yards) in Estero, Fla.
Three of Liberty's four fall events will be played during the month of October. Along with this event, the Flames will also make return appearances at Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational (Oct. 13-14 in Vero Beach, Fla.) and Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational (Oct. 13 – Nov. 2 in Ka'anapali, Hawaii).
This new tournament features a 14-team field with half of the field finishing inside the top 100 in last year's end-of-season national rankings. The list includes USF (No. 46), Stetson (No. 62), Lipscomb (No. 65), FGCU (No. 70), Middle Tennessee (No. 77), Elon (No. 83) and Liberty (No. 84).
The event will also give Liberty its first look at fellow Conference USA foe Middle Tennessee, who was the No. 1 seed in last year's CUSA Men's Golf Championship. The Flames would go on to win the championship event, claiming the program's eighth conference title.
In its first tournament of the 2024-25 season, Liberty finished tied for sixth place at the Rod Myers Invitational, September 23-24. The Flames carded a 2-over par 866 (292-290-284) at the Duke University Golf Club in Durham, N.C.
NC State claimed the team title with a strong final day performance. The Wolfpack closed with a 12-under par 276 to win the team title with an overall 22-under par 842 (288-278-276).
The Flames placed two of their starting five golfers inside the top 10 on the individual leaderboard.
Evan Barbin led the way for Liberty as the junior finished tied for fifth place with a 6-under par 210 (70-70-70). Barbin ranked fourth in the 72-man field with 15 birdies and led the tournament in par-3 play (-4/2.67 scoring average).
Ike Joy finished tied for 10th place with a 3-under par 213 (69-72-72). The senior led the field with 43 pars during the 54-hole event and opened the event with his fifth career sub-70 round.
Play at The Island at West Bay Club Collegiate Invitational gets underway on Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start.
