
FIU Holds Off Liberty, 3-1

MIAMI, Fla. - Liberty battled back from deficits the entire match, but was unable to overcome as FIU held off the Lady Flames, 3-1 (25-23, 25-15, 16-25, 25-20), Tuesday at Ocean Bank Convocation Center.
FIU improves to 4-20, 2-9 in Conference USA play with its second win in the last three matches. The Lady Flames (11-12, 5-6) sustained their third straight setback, all on the road.

- The Panthers outhit the Lady Flames, .164-.120. FIU also led in kills (52-47), assists (45-43), aces (6-3) and digs (76-61). Liberty held a 13-6 advantage in blocks.
- Anna Feldkamp scored a match-high 16 kills (.419) for FIU, while Courtney O'Brien turned in a double-double with 12 kills and 13 digs. Savannah Cook dished out a match-high 40 assists to go along with 12 digs, while reigning CUSA Defensive Player of the Week Mandi Morioka led all players with three aces and 24 digs. Â Kindyl Kilar collected 13 digs.
- Kate Gammer recorded her seventh double-double of the season and 31st of her career, with 14 kills and 12 digs. Elizabeth Helmich sent down nine kills. Autumn Flowers posted a match-high seven blocks, while Erica Lowery collected 21 digs. Paige Overcash totaled seven kills and four blocks, while Madison Blane registered four blocks. Charli Crowson contributed 23 assists, two aces and seven digs.Â
- Liberty trailed set one, 21-13 before staging a 10-1 rally to take a 23-22 lead. However, FIU ended the set one a three-point rally to win, 25-23. The Panthers quickly built a 10-point advantage in the second set, winning 25-15.
- The Lady Flames bounced back to win set three, 25-16. However, Liberty found itself behind 22-16 in the fourth set and couldn't quite extend the match to five.
- FIU tied the all-time series with Liberty in volleyball at 2-2. The Panthers are 2-1 against the Lady Flames since Liberty joined CUSA last year.
- Liberty is 8-12 in two-point sets this season.
- This was the seventh match in a row in which Liberty fell behind after set one.
- Today marked Lowery's 10th career 20-dig match, and third this season. Lowery, who transferred to Liberty from Texas A&M after the 2021 season, collected her 1,000th collegiate dig on Friday. She needs six more digs to reach 1,000 digs during her time as a Lady Flame.
- Gammer passed Jessica Nelson (2004-05, 2007-08) into 15th place in program history with 1,091 career kills.
- Flowers (7) and Overcash (4) posted season highs in blocks for Liberty.
