
Gammer Scores 1,000th Kill, Lady Flames Fall 3-1 to Owls

KENNESAW, Ga. – Liberty senior Kate Gammer scored her 1,000th career kills during a 15-kill effort, but Kennesaw State held off the Lady Flames 3-1 (25-14, 28-26, 23-25, 29-27) on Sunday at KSU Convocation Center.
KSU (8-11, 5-3 CUSA) has now won four matches in a row, going 4-0 combined this week against Jacksonville State and Liberty. The Lady Flames fall to 10-8, 4-2 in Conference USA play with a pair of setbacks this weekend.

- KSU outhit Liberty, .250-.197. The Owls also led in kills (62-49), assists (61-45), aces (8-5), digs (55-50) and blocks (11-9).
- Manu Johnsen led all players with 16 kills, adding 16 digs. Olivia Burrage scored 15 kills at a .684 clip and added five blocks, while Caroline Chastang totaled 13 kills and 10 digs. Kiernan Stamey tied for the match lead with six blocks, while Leah Freeman contributed three aces and 10 digs. Kaeley Walz posted 23 assists, four kills and eight digs.
- Gammer recorded 10 or more kills for the seventh match in a row, sending down 15 kills while adding eight digs. Autumn Flowers hit .500 with eight kills, while Erica Lowery collected a match-high 18 digs. Carly O'Brien served up three aces, while Madison Blane posted six blocks. Charli Crowson and Charli Morris combined for four kills, 35 assists, eight digs and one block at the setter position.

Turning Point
- Liberty trailed set four 24-21 before fighting off three straight match points to tie it at 24-24. Jenna Otts' attack when down 24-22 was initially ruled out, but then upon video review, was overturned, keeping the Lady Flames alive. Liberty earned a pair of set-point tries at 26-25 and 27-26, but the Owls ended the match on a 3-0 run to take the 3-1 win.
- Kennesaw State leads the all-time series against Liberty, 15-1, including 9-0 in KSU Convocation Center. The Lady Flames won the most recent matchup before this week, sweeping the Owls 3-0 on Sept. 30, 2022 in Liberty Arena.
- Gammer became the 18th Lady Flame to record 1,000 or more career kills during her time at Liberty, doing so in her 93rd career match. Teammate Kamryn Bacus scored her 1,000th career kill last season, giving Liberty two 1,000-kill players on the same team since 2019, when Casey Goodwin and Anna Gragg both scored their 1,000th kill.
- The Lady Flames are 7-9 in sets decided by two points and 2-5 in extended sets so far this season. Today's fourth set (29-27) was its longest set of the season and longest since winning set two at North Alabama, 31-29, on Nov. 4, 2022.
