
Liberty in 8th Place After Round 1 of Valero Texas Collegiate

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Flames opened their 2023-24 season in eighth place following the first day of action at the Valero Texas Collegiate on Saturday.
Liberty carded a 5-over par 293 during its first time around the renowned TPC San Antonio Oaks Course (par 72, 7,034 yards).
The course is the host of the Valero Texas Open, an annual stop on the PGA Tour. The individual medalist at this year's Valera Texas Collegiate will receive an exemption into the 2024 Valero Texas Open.
The 12-team field features 10 teams that finished the 2022-23 season ranked inside the final top 50 national ranking.
Leading the way following play on Saturday is Vanderbilt, who ended last year ranked No. 1 in the country. The Commodores carded a 5-under par 283 and hold a two-stroke edge following play on Saturday.
FGCU, Liberty's conference partner in the ASUN last year, and Oklahoma, who was ranked No. 11 at the end of last season, share second place following a 3-under par 285.
TCU ranks out the last team in red figures following day one, as they are in fourth place following a 1-under par 287.
A total of 13 players finished the opening round in red figures, led by Oklahoma's Stephen Campbell, Jr., who fired a 4-under par 68.
Baylor's Johnny Keefer and FGCU's Joe Sullivan are one shot off the pace following a 3-under par 69.
Liberty's Josh Ryan is one of five players who share fourth place following a 2-under par 70. Ryan, along with teammate Brett Reid finished tied for second in the field with 14 pars.
The 12-team field will return to the TPC San Antonio Oaks Course at 10 a.m. EST to begin the second round of the Valero Texas Collegiate.
