Faust Honored as BIG EAST Freshman of the Week

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Liberty midfielder Kyleigh Faust has been named the BIG EAST Field Hockey Freshman of the Week.
This is Faust's first career freshman of the week honor from the conference and first weekly honor. Faust, a redshirt freshman, is the first Liberty freshman to receive the honor since Martu Cian earned the award during her rookie campaign on Oct. 5, 2021.
In addition to Faust's award, junior forward Tuti Dell Anna was tabbed to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for a second consecutive week.
Faust totaled one goal, one assist and three points in a pair of game this past weekend against Providence and Longwood. In last Friday's home BIG EAST contest against the Friars, Faust assisted on what proved to be the game-winning goal from Ellie Livingston in the 38th minute which put Liberty up 2-1 in the eventual 5-2 win. The assist was the first of her collegiate career.
On Sunday at Longwood, the redshirt freshman scored on a penalty stroke late in the second period (28:57 mark) to extend the Lady Flames' lead to 4-1 heading into intermission. Liberty prevailed 7-1 over the Lancers.
Dell Anna tallied two goals, an assist and five points in last weekend's victories. In the victory over the Friars, Dell Anna scored in the 40th minute on her only shot of the game, putting Liberty ahead 3-1.
On Sunday at Longwood, the junior forced a turnover in the second minute and found her fellow forward Milagros Arteta for a goal and a 1-0 Lady Flames lead only 1:29 into the match. Dell Anna added a goal of her own at the 48:32 mark on a reverse shot into the right side for a 6-1 lead for the visitors. Dell Anna's goal was her fourth of the season, and she has scored one goal in each of the last four matches. Through 10 games in her first season at Liberty, the forward has accumulated four goals, one assist and nine points.
Liberty has totaled 10 BIG EAST weekly honors and one national award through the first five weeks of the 2023 campaign.
Faust, Dell Anna and No. 9 Liberty enter the week with a 9-1 overall mark and 2-0 record in BIG EAST play. The Lady Flames have won nine of their first 10 games for the second time in school history (other: spring 2021 team). Liberty will face Temple (6-3, 1-1 BIG EAST) in league play, Friday afternoon. Match time is 1 p.m. at Howarth Field in Philadelphia, Pa. and can be seen on ESPN+.
