With the victory, Liberty extends its NCAA Division I leading unbeaten streak to 24 games (21-0-3). Liberty becomes the only Division l program with a win for every result this season after Florida State played to a 3-3 draw at North Carolina earlier today.
Liberty records its fifth straight shutout and has not allowed a goal during its last 435 minutes on the pitch. The Lady Flames have recorded eight total shutouts this season.
Ava Goodman opened the scoring in the fourth minute, banging a shot that ricocheted to her off a corner.
Liberty extended the lead to 2-0 at the 29-minute mark from a Bearkat own goal after an errant pass bounced over the keeper's foot.
The Lady Flames came out firing to begin the second half, netting three goals within the first five minutes. Rachel DeRuby grabbed the first goal of the half after finding a pocket in the penalty area to deposit a cross from Ivy Garner and Allison Hansford.
Saydie Holland scored two consecutive goals, the first coming off a Lena James free kick that bounced right to the midfielder after banging off the right post. Two minutes later, Holland headed a deep corner from Bridie Herman that she was able to sneak off the opposite post.
Megan Hagan, a redshirt sophomore making her collegiate debut, ballooned the score to 6-0 in the 85 minute. Hagan found herself with space at the top of the penalty box and put in a falling right-footer past the Bearkat keeper on a feed from freshman Avenley Monteith.
Sunday's matchup was the first ever between the two programs.
