
Texas A&M Outhits Liberty in 3-0 Sweep

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Texas A&M hit .416 on the way to a 3-0 sweep of Liberty (25-13, 25-15, 25-18) on Friday at Reed Arena.
The Aggies (8-2) received votes in this Monday's AVCA/Taraflex Division I WVB Poll. Texas A&M opened the season with a 7-0 record before dropping its next two matches and then recovered with today's sweep. The Lady Flames fell to 7-4 on the season with their fourth setback in a row.

Liberty returns to the Commonwealth of Virginia and will wrap up its non-conference slate on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Old Dominion.

- For the match, Texas A&M outhit Liberty .416-.000. The Aggies also led in kills (38-22), aces (8-5), digs (35-28) and blocks (11-3).
- Bianna Muoneke scored a match-high 10 kills for the Aggies, followed by nine kills (.438) and four blocks from Logan Lednicky. Margot Manning served up a match-high three aces, while Ava Underwood collected a match-high 10 digs and Morgan Perkins contributed five blocks.
- Madison Blane hit .500 for the match, scoring seven kills, while Sydney Whitfield sent down a career-high seven kills in her first start as a Lady Flame. Delaney Dilfer dished out a match-high 17 assists while serving up two aces.
- Texas A&M maintained control throughout the match. Liberty trailed 21-13 in set three before going on a 4-0 scoring run which featured a Blane-Kate Phillips block, a kill from Blane and two Dilfer aces. However, A&M outscored Liberty 4-1 the rest of the way to clinch the sweep.
- Today was Liberty's first-ever meeting with Texas A&M in volleyball. The Lady Flames are 2-15 all-time against SEC programs, and last beat an SEC team in 2001, a 3-2 win over Alabama.
- In addition to Whitfield making her first career start, fellow redshirt freshman Taylor Bates made her first collegiate appearance. Bates and Brooke Elliott both scored their first career kill this afternoon.
- Liberty and Texas A&M both opened their 2023 season with seven straight wins.
- Current Liberty Head Coach Trevor Johnson was an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Texas A&M in 2016 and 2017, while Liberty Associate Head Coach Brett Anema was a volunteer assistant at Texas A&M in 2017. Liberty senior Erica Lowery played her first two seasons at Texas A&M before transferring to Liberty.
