Pepperdine Holds Off Liberty 3-1

HONOLULU, Hawai'i - Liberty battled back to force a fourth set, but Pepperdine took set four and the match, 3-1 (25-22, 25-18, 24-26, 25-12) on Sunday at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.
The Waves (2-6) snapped a three-match winless streak, earning its first win since a 3-0 sweep at San Diego State on Sept. 1. The Lady Flames (7-2) sustained their second straight loss after starting the season at 7-0. Both Liberty and Pepperdine went 1-2 at this weekend's Outrigger Volleyball Challenge, with the Lady Flames posting the first win over a Top 25 team in program history on Thursday, a 3-2 win over the host No. 23 Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine.

Liberty will travel to College Station, Texas, for a pair of matches hosted by Texas A&M. The Lady Flames take on Houston at 6 p.m. Eastern on Thursday before taking on Texas A&M, Friday at 1 p.m. Eastern time.

- Pepperdine's Grace Chillingworth scored a match-high 18 kills to go along with 13 digs and four blocks, while Birdie Hendrickson registered a double-double with 14 kills and 14 digs. - Three Lady Flames (Kamryn Bacus, Julia Mangum, Madison Blane) scored nine kills apiece, while Bacus shared match-high honors with three aces and Blane registered six blocks. Erica Lowery collected 14 digs, while Delaney Dilfer totaled 27 assists and nine digs. Lily Wagner recorded seven kills and a career-high nine digs.
- Pepperdine took the first two sets and used a 5-0 rally to come back from a 23-19 set-three deficit, earning a match-point try. However, Liberty extended the match with a 3-0 run. Sydney Whitfield tied it with a kill, then Pepperdine hit it out before Liberty clinched the set 26-24 with a block by Kate Phillips and Blane.
- The Waves took control early in the fourth set, racing to a 25-12 win.
- Tonight was Liberty's first-ever meeting with Pepperdine. Liberty is now 0-6 all-time against WCC teams.
- Pepperdine is one of four teams which Liberty has played so far this season who competed in the 2022 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship.
