
Liberty Erupts for 11 Runs in 6th Inning to Dump Jacksonville State 18-8

Trailing Jacksonville State by six runs, the Liberty Flames exploded for 11 runs in the sixth inning for an 18-8 victory over the Gamecocks in eight innings, Sunday afternoon in an ASUN game at Worthington Field at Liberty Baseball Stadium.
With Jacksonville leading 8-2, the Flames sent 17 men to the plate to take a 13-8 lead in the bottom of the sixth. Liberty used four hits, including a grand slam by first baseman Brayden Horton, and took advantage of seven walks and three batters hit by a pitch to post its first double-digit inning since May 22, 2021.
Horton collected three hits in the contest, driving in a career-high six runs and scoring two. His grand slam was his fourth home run of the season.
Catcher Three Hillier and shortstop Cam Foster also homered for the Flames. Hillier had two hits, two RBI and three runs scored in the game. Foster, Liberty's RBI leader, knocked in three runs and scored three runs.
With the victory, Liberty takes the three-game series, 2-1. The Flames even their ASUN record at 12-12 and move to 22-25 overall. Jacksonville State falls to 15-9 in the ASUN and 22-25 overall.

Turning Point
Trailing in the sixth, Simmons and Kepley opened the inning with bases on balls. Horton followed with an RBI single to plate the first run of the uprising. Kepley then scored on a ground out by right fielder Camden Troyer, cutting the Jacksonville State lead to 8-4.
Center fielder Jaylen Guy walked and second baseman Gray Betts was hit by a pitch to again load the bases. After a Gamecocks pitching change, Foster drove in Horton on a fielder's choice to inch Liberty closer at 8-5.
Next batter Hillier walked to load the bases before designated hitter Todd Hudson was hit by a pitch and Simmons and Kepley walked with loaded bases to force in runs to tie the game at 8-8.
Horton followed by blasting the third pitch of his at bat over the right field wall for a grand slam to give Liberty a 12-8 lead.
With the bases loaded and two outs later in the inning, Foster would be hit to force in a run to cap the 11-run inning and push the Flames' advantage to 13-8.
