
Liberty Earns 8-0 Run-Rule Win Over SJSU

Liberty earned its first win of the season, an 8-0, six-inning victory over San Jose State, Saturday at Bill Barber Park as part of the Mark Campbell Collegiate Invitational.
The Lady Flames improve to 1-3 on the year with one game remaining this weekend. San Jose State falls to 0-3 prior to its game against Stanford this afternoon.

Notable Numbers
- Liberty outhit SJSU 10-2, with the Spartans committing one error. The Lady Flames left seven on base while SJSU stranded two runners. Liberty tied a program single-game record with three double plays. The last time Liberty turned three double plays was April 23, 2014 at Virginia.
- Paige Bachman (1-1) earned her first career win, tossing a two-hit shutout while walking two and striking out three.
- Ashley Goard (0-1) drew the loss, allowing five runs on two hits in 1/3 of an inning as the starter before giving way to Lacie Ham.
- Alexis Soto went 3-for-4 with a homer, four RBI and three runs scored, setting career highs for both RBI and runs. Mary Claire Wilson batted 2-for-2 with a triple and one RBI, while Caroline Hudson went 2-for-3 with one run. KK Madrey went 1-for-3 with two runs scored.
Turning Point
- Liberty loaded the bases with nobody out to start the game. With one out, Roupe drew a bases-loaded walk to get the Lady Flames on the board. Soto then hit the first pitch she saw for a grand slam, making the score 5-0.
Beyond the Box Score
- Liberty and San Jose State were meeting for the first time today. The last time Liberty beat a Mountain West team was March 8, 2019 over San Diego State.
- Brynn McManus gave Liberty its eighth run of the game, hitting an RBI double for her first career hit, double and RBI.
- Soto recorded her second career three-hit game. She is the first Lady Flame to hit a grand slam since Mary Claire Wilson, May 3, 2022 at Virginia Tech. Soto, Wilson, Rachel Craine and Rachel Roupe are all current Liberty players who have hit at least one grand slam as a Lady Flame.
- Bachman tossed a shutout in her first career pitching start. Prior to today, the last time a Liberty player pitched a shutout in her first career start was Feb. 16, 2001, when Ali Thompson tossed a six-hitter against Youngstown State.
