Blane Named CUSA Defensive Player of the Week for 3rd Time

Liberty junior middle blocker Madison Blane has been named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season.
Blane, a native of Montgomery, Texas, receives her third career CUSA Defensive Player of the Week honor, as she also earned the honor on Sept. 4 and Oct. 16. On Oct. 9, she was named CUSA Offensive Player of the Week. Her three CUSA Defensive Player of the Week honors are the most by any Conference USA player so far this season. She is the first Liberty player since Gabrielle Shipe in 2012 to receive three conference defensive player of the week awards in the same season.
Blane is the first player since 2022 CUSA Player of the Year Lauren Matthews of Western Kentucky to be named both CUSA Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week in the same season.
Playing in her home state, Blane continued her net dominance, averaging 1.38 blocks per set in a pair of 3-1 wins at Sam Houston while helping Liberty hold the Bearkats to a .144 hitting percentage total for the weekend. Blane is now the CUSA leader in blocks per set both overall (1.32) and in conference play (1.23).
On Friday, she tied for the match high with five blocks (one solo, four assisted), as Liberty outhit SHSU .244-.189. With Liberty facing set point at 24-23 in the third set, Blane posted a solo block to tie it and Liberty went on to win 27-25. She added two blocks in the fourth set to help seal the match.
During Saturday's 3-1 win, Blane tied for the match high with six blocks, assisting on six out of Liberty's 10 blocks while helping hold Sam Houston to a .099 hitting percentage. After having no blocks in Liberty's 25-21 set-one loss, she averaged two blocks each in sets two through four, all Lady Flame wins.
Liberty (13-11, 6-6 CUSA) will host Louisiana Tech, Thursday and Friday at Liberty Arena. Thursday will be Liberty's senior day, and will also be Alzheimer's Awareness Night, as Liberty raises funds and awareness for the Alzheimer's Association. Friday will be Alumni Day.
