
Marques Da Silva and Longwe-Smit Split Doubles Matches at ITA All-Americans

TULSA, Okla. – Rafael Marques Da Silva and Thando Longwe-Smit went 1-1 as a doubles pair at the ITA All-American Championships on Monday. Liberty's time at the event comes to a close, with the Flames collecting a 6-6 combined record between the four invited players.
In their first match of the day, the Liberty pair came back to top UNLV's duo of Anton Ornberg and Jackson Atherton in a three-set marathon 6-7 (3), 7-6 (4), 1-0 (4).
The duo was put to the test in its second match pit up against Gonzaga's No. 34 Sasha Trkuulja and Matthew Hollingworth. The Liberty pair put in another valiant effort forcing a third set tiebreaker after splitting sets 6-3, 4-6. The two entered a tough tiebreak with neither team able to build a larger than two-point lead. The Flames duo was able to defend two match points, but the Gonzaga duo prevailed 12-10. The final score of the match was 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (12).
