
No. 7 Liberty Tops Quinnipiac 2-1 to Secure Spot in BIG EAST Championship

Liberty bolsters its overall record to 13-1 on the season and has won eight games in a row. Quinnipiac slips to 5-7 overall and 2-3 in BIG EAST play.
The Lady Flames have qualified for the BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship in all eight years they have been a member of the conference. This year's tournament will be held at Temple's Howarth Field, Nov. 3-5.

Turning Point
Quinnipiac led 1-0 through three quarters before Liberty seniors Reagan Underwood and Bethany Dykema scored the game-tying and go-ahead goals. Underwood's goal came less than a minute into the fourth frame (45:49) on a penalty corner tip for her fifth goal of the campaign. Less than two minutes later, Liberty capitalized on another penalty corner. The Lady Flames' Bethany Dykema swept a shot from the left side into the cage for a 2-1 advantage for the guests at the 47:45 mark.
Dykema's fourth goal of 2023 proved to be the difference. The Lady Flames outshot the Bobcats 8-2 in the second half. The Liberty defense fended off one Quinnipiac penalty corner in the closing minutes to preserve the victory.

- Jodie Conolly recorded her third two-assist game of the season and seventh of her career. Conolly leads all Liberty players with 10 assists. She is the 15th player in program history to record a double-digit assist season.
- Conolly moves into a tie for fourth place in program history with 34 career assists.

The Lady Flames will host James Madison (3-9) in a non-conference match, Sunday. Game time is 1 p.m. Sunday is Senior Day for the Liberty field hockey program. Prior to the contest, the team will honor its 10 seniors. Those 10 graduating seniors are: Bethany Dykema, Azul Iritxity Irigoyen, Jodie Conolly, Lexi Hosler, Maddie Vicars, Pima Iturraspe, Milagros Arteta, Alyssa Maryanopolis, Maitland Demand and Emily Dykema.
Liberty and JMU have split six all-time meetings.
