
Liberty and Longwood Tie 1-1

The Liberty Flames and the Longwood Lancers played to a 1-1 tie in a non-conference match Tuesday evening at the Longwood Athletic Complex.
Despite the Flames outshooting the Lancers 15-11, the game came down to penalty kicks. Liberty took a 1-0 lead during the 53rd minute on a goal off a penalty kick by Luke Eberle. Longwood found the equalizer on a penalty kick during the 89th minute to make 1-1.
Liberty moves to 2-3-3 on the year. Longwood is now 1-4-3.

Turning Point
After a scoreless first half, Liberty took control of the play early in the second half. Eberle beat a Lancers defender inside the 18-yard box during the 53rd minute. The defender pulled the Flames forward down, and the referee awarded Liberty with a penalty kick which Eberle scored to give the Flames a 1-0 advantage.
Up 1-0, Liberty dictated play for the rest of the second half until the contest’s final minutes. A Longwood attacker just moved inside the box when he was brought down by a Flames defender with 1:35 left. Renan Santos scored the ensuing penalty kick to tie the game at 1-1.
