
Program Best Round Moves No. 43 Liberty in 2nd Place

No. 43 Liberty tied a program record on Saturday moving the Flames into second place enter tomorrow’s final round of the 2022 Mason Rudolph Championship.
Liberty carded a 13-under par 271 during its second trip around Vanderbilt Legends Club – South Course (par 71, 7,100 yards).
The round of 271 tied the lowest 18-hole team total in program history. The Flames also carded a 271 during the third round of the Golfweek Conference Challenge on Sept. 21, 2010 and the second round of the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate on Oct. 21, 2019.
Following the record low round, Liberty is currently in second place during the three-day event, having carded an overall score of 20-under par 548 (277-271).
The Flames are chasing tournament host and No. 3 ranked Vanderbilt, who bested Liberty by one shot on its home course on Saturday.
Vanderbilt holds a 12-stroke lead heading into tomorrow’s final round, leaving the 15-team field with an overall 32-under par 536 (266-270).
Liberty will return to the Vanderbilt Legends Club – South Course on Sunday to begin its final round, starting at 11:30 a.m. CST, along with golfers from No. 3 Vanderbilt and No. 22 Tennessee.
Round Recap – Liberty’s Starting Five:
- Jonathan Yaun – T2 8-under par 134 (67-67)
- Isaac Simmons – T6 6-under par 136 (71-65)
- Austin Barbin – T15 3-under par 139 (69-70)

Field Reflections:
- 3 Vanderbilt and No. 43 Liberty played the second round at a combined 27-under par on Saturday.
- The remaining 13 teams played Saturday’s round at a combined 6-over par.
- Liberty enters the final round holding a seven-stroke lead over No. 20 Tennessee, who is in third place with a 13-under par 555 (275-280).
- Vanderbilt’s Cole Sherwood, the No. 9 ranked golfer in the country, currently leads the 87-man field with a 12-under par 130 (63-67).
- A total of 32 players enter the final round in red figures, including four of Liberty’s six golfers in the field.
Birdies and Bogeys – Liberty Team Notes:
- Liberty’s Isaac Simmons had a career day, carding a career best 18-hole total with a 6-under par 65.
- Simmons carded seven birdies on Sunday and currently ranks second in the field with 11 total birdies during the Championship.
- Jonathan Yaun matched his opening round 68 with another 4-under par 68 to climb into second place with an overall 8-under par 136 (68-68).
- Austin Barbin birdied three of his last five holes to post his second sub-70 round of the season and climb into a share of 15th place with 3-under par 139 (70-69).
