Flames in 3rd Place Entering Final Round at The Hayt

No. 43 Liberty overcame a tough start to the day to rally and find itself in third place heading into tomorrow’s final round of The Hayt.
Liberty was 8-over par following the first six holes of play around the Sawgrass Country Club (par 72, 6,966 yards). However, the Flames played the remaining 30 holes at level par to enter tomorrow’s final round at an overall 8-over par 584 (291-293).
The Flames trail tournament host and No. 38 ranked North Florida (276-296) and No. 39 Charlotte (276-296) by 12 strokes. The pair of teams had their way with the course during the morning flight, opening the tournament with matching rounds of 12-under par 276.
The top half of the 15-team field is loaded with ASUN Conference schools. The Flames enter the final round two shots ahead of FGCU, who is in fourth place with a 10-over par 586 (293-293).
North Florida’s Robbie Higgins leads a group of seven golfers who completed the first 36 holes of play in red figures. Higgins, who chipped in on the final hole of the day, leads the 90-man field with a 5-under par 139 (67-72).
Liberty’s Kieran Vincent is two shots off the pace and is tied for fifth place with a 3-under par 141 (71-70).
The Flames have a trio of golfers currently tied for 17th place with a 3-over over 147: Austin Barbin (73-74), Jonathan Yaun (71-76) and Isaac Simmons (71-76/Individual).
Liberty will return to the Sawgrass Country Club in the morning for the final round of The Hayt. The Flames will tee off at No. 1, starting at 9:15 a.m., along with golfers from No. 38 North Florida and No. 39 Charlotte.
