
Lady Flames Defeat Navy, 3-1

Liberty bounced back from a Friday morning setback to Old Dominion, defeating Navy in four sets (25-22, 28-30, 25-18, 25-22) on Friday night at Liberty Arena.
With the win, the Lady Flames improve to 4-1 on the season, including 1-1 at the Liberty Invitational. Meanwhile, Navy evens its record at 4-4 after a 1-1 showing today.
Liberty will face both Purdue Fort Wayne (10 a.m.) and Loyola Marymount tomorrow, while Navy will face Loyola Marymount at 4 p.m.
Notable Numbers
• Liberty outhit Navy .225-.082, as both teams posted 10 blocks. The Lady Flames also led in digs (season-high 78 digs to 65 for Navy), while the Midshipmen led 8-5 in aces.
• Trinity Watts scored a match-high 15 kills, while Lilly Kruse posted her second career double-double with 14 kills and 16 digs. Lydia Burts posted nine kills and seven blocks, while Amelia Preston scored nine kills. Lindsey Hardesty collected 18 digs, while Leah Kodat corralled a career-high 14 digs.
• Cami Herman led Navy with 12 kills, while Jamie Llewellyn scored 11 kills. Maggie Bodman recorded six blocks.
Turning Point
• Navy evened the match with a 30-28 set-two win, battling back from a 24-22 deficit during a set that included 16 ties and eight lead changes.
• The Lady Flames took control of the match from that point, winning set three 25-18 and taking a 25-22 set-four victory.
Quick Hits
• Liberty is now 7-16 all-time against Navy in volleyball, having won the last three meetings. The Lady Flames defeated the Midshipmen 3-1 on Sept. 15, 2006 in the teams’ last meeting.
• The Lady Flames are off to their best five-match start to a season since beginning the 2014 campaign 4-1.
• Navy’s .082 hitting percentage was the lowest attack percentage by an opponent this season.
• Kruse scored 14 kills in both matches today, marking the first time in her career that she has posted back-to-back 10-kill matches.
• Burts’ four solo blocks tonight were the most by a Lady Flame since Nicki Scripko posted five solo blocks against UC Irvine on Sept. 21, 2008.
• Amelia Preston made her return to the court today after missing the spring season due to injury. It had been 640 days since Preston last competed in a match for Liberty. The redshirt senior outside hitter scored a total of 13 kills at a .524 pace in her two matches played today.
