
UNF Races Past Liberty, 3-0

North Florida rallied from a 16-8 deficit to take set one, on the way to a 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-14) sweep over Liberty on Friday at Liberty Arena.
North Florida improves to 17-2 on the season, including 6-1 in ASUN play. Meanwhile, Liberty falls to 6-8, 2-5 in conference matches following its fifth straight setback.
Liberty is participating in a pair of cancer awareness fundraisers this weekend. Tonight, the Lady Flames partnered with Vs. Cancer to raise funds and awareness for pediatric brain tumor patients.
Notable Numbers
• UNF outhit Liberty .324-.196 for the match. The Ospreys led in blocks (13-5) and aces (7-3), while the Lady Flames held a slight 48-47 edge in digs.
• Dariana Hollingsworth-Santana recorded a double-double with 15 kills and 11 digs, while Gabby O’Connell scored 10 kills for UNF. Annie Antar dished out a match-high 38 assists and added four block assists while Maddie Boyd totaled eight blocks and Rocio Moro collected 11 digs.
• Liberty’s Aspen Thompson hit .500 with a team-high 10 kills and also added three block assists. Trinity Watts sent down nine kills, while Amaya Williams recorded her 17th career double-double with 31 assists and 10 digs. Lindsey Hardesty led all players with 13 digs.
Turning Point
• Liberty stormed out to a 16-8 lead in set one, with a Thompson/Kate Phillips block giving Liberty the eight-point lead. After a pair of UNF points, Liberty called a timeout. The Lady Flames regained momentum, leading 20-15 following a Lydia Burts kill. The Ospreys then tied it with a 5-0 run, sparking a dash to the finish, with UNF prevailing 25-22 on Hollingsworth-Santana’s fifth kill.
• The Ospreys controlled the second set, and pulled away late for a 25-14 win during set three to secure the sweep.
Quick Hits
• Tonight’s was UNF’s first-ever win over the Lady Flames in volleyball. Liberty came into the match with a 6-0 all-time record against the Ospreys. Since joining the ASUN in 2018, Liberty is now a combined 9-1 against Jacksonville-based teams North Florida and Jacksonville.
• Williams surpassed the 2,000-career assist mark tonight. With 2,009 career assists, she is now ranked 11th in program history.
• Thompson, a senior, has two career double-digit kill matches. Both of them have come this year, as she scored 13 kills against Duquesne on Sept. 3 and totaled 10 kills tonight.
• Liberty was playing its first home match since Sept 11 against Loyola Marymount. The span of 34 days in between home matches was the longest in a single season since Liberty went exactly 34 days between home matches at one point in the 2016 season.
Up Next
The Lady Flames host Jacksonville on Sunday at 1 p.m. to wrap up the first round of ASUN East Division play. Sunday’s match will serve as Liberty’s Dig Pink match, as the Lady Flames will partner with the Side-Out Foundation to raise funds and awareness for metastatic breast cancer.
