Liberty field hockey newcomer Daniella Rhodes garnered the distinction of BIG EAST Field Hockey Freshman of the Week on Monday afternoon from the conference office.
Rhodes made an immediate impact in her collegiate debut, leading No. 20 Liberty with a team-high four points (1 g, 2 a) in a 5-1 home win over James Madison yesterday. She scored on a reverse shot into the top of the cage in the 35th minute, her first career goal, to extend the Lady Flames' lead to 3-0 over the Dukes. The play made Sunday evening's ESPN SportsCenter's Top 10 Plays listing.
The Durban, South Africa, native went on to record assists on Liberty's final two goals of the contest, scored by Mallory Fortenbaugh and Lizzie Hamlett. Rhodes also led the squad with five shots on goal against JMU in the season opener.
Rhodes and the Lady Flames (1-0) are back in action on Friday at home against the Richmond Spiders (1-1). Match time is set for 3 p.m. at the Liberty Field Hockey Field.
