
Campbell Posts 3-0 Sweep of Liberty

Campbell edged Liberty in the first two sets on Friday before pulling away for a 3-0 sweep (26-24, 25-23, 25-15) at Gore Arena.
With its second win a row, Campbell improves to 12-8, including 2-4 in Big South play. Liberty (6-12, 3-2) saw its three-match winning streak end.
For the match, Campbell outhit Liberty, .255-.163, while also leading, 44-34 in digs and 5-1 in service aces. The Lady Flames held an 11-4 advantage in kills.
Campbell's Allena Heath led all players with 17 kills, to go along with 10 digs. Jessica Stocking scored 10 kills, while Madee Miner and Kayla Schanback collected 10 digs apiece. Summer Schuitema dished out a match-high 35 assists.
Casey Goodwin sent down 13 kills at a .480 pace to lead Liberty, while the sophomore also posted a match-high six blocks. Sirena Vorster and Anna Gragg registered five blocks apiece, while Amaya Williams recorded a team-high 17 assists. Margaret Latchford collected eight digs, moving her past Becky Shannon (1985-88) into 16th place all-time at Liberty with 1,122 career digs.
Liberty used a five-point rally to take the lead at 20-17 in set one. Campbell bounced back, scoring four straight points to go ahead, 21-20. After Liberty tied it at 22-22, a Camels block and a Schuitema kill made it 24-22. The Lady Flames drew to within 24-23 with their seventh block of the match, and tied it on a Campbell error. The hosts scored the final two points for the win.
Set one saw Campbell hit .143, compared to .125 for the Lady Flames. Liberty registered seven blocks, getting four rejections each from Gragg and Goodwin. Heath scored seven set-one kills.
The Lady Flames came out on fire to start the second set, leading 9-2 after 11 serves. Liberty still led, 15-10, before Campbell staged a 6-0 run to gain the advantage. Goodwin and Gragg then scored back-to-back kills. However, three straight Campbell points made it 19-17. Liberty tied it at 20-20 before the hosts went on a 4-1 run. Liberty fought off two set-point tries before Heath's kill sealed it for Campbell, 25-23.
In set two, Campbell hit .296, while Liberty attacked at a .280 pace. Goodwin scored five kills on six attempts during the middle session.
Campbell led the third session, 16-10, following a Stocking kill. Goodwin helped keep Liberty within striking distance, with her kill narrowing the gap to 17-13. The Camels led, 18-14, before outscoring the Lady Flames, 7-1, down the stretch to seal the match win.
During set three, Campbell outhit Liberty, .351-.122. Goodwin sent down seven kills for the Lady Flames, while Heath answered with six kills for the host Camels.
Liberty will take on current Big South leader High Point, next Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Millis Center. The Lady Flames will look to avenge a 3-1 setback to the Panthers that occurred during both teams' conference opener on Sept. 19 at the Vines Center.
