
High Point Downs Liberty in Straight Sets

Big South-leading High Point extended its winning streak to nine with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-18) victory over Liberty, Tuesday at the Millis Center.
The Panthers improve to 14-6 on the season, including 7-0 in Big South play. Liberty falls to 6-13 with an even 3-3 conference record.
For the match, High Point outhit Liberty, .304-.152, despite the Lady Flames holding a 7-2 edge in blocks. The Panthers led, 49-46 in digs and 6-4 in aces.
The Panthers' Molly Livingston scored a match-high 14 kills at a .500 pace, while Haley Barnes chipped in with 10 kills and two aces. Jordan Hefner hit .538 with nine kills, while Carly Jimenez dished out 21 assists and Abby Bottomley collected a match-high 20 digs.
Casey Goodwin led Liberty with eight kills and a match-high four blocks, while Lydia Smith (.583) totaled seven kills. Amaya Williams dished out a match-high 24 assists, while Margaret Latchford collected 12 digs and Victoria Baptista corralled 11 digs.
High Point staged a 5-0 run to take an early 11-6 lead in set one. The Panthers led, 18-11, following a kill by Hefner. The Lady Flames rallied back, going on a 5-1 run capped by a Latchford service ace that narrowed the gap to 19-16. The hosts outscored their guests, 6-1 down the stretch to seal the set, 25-17.
Set one saw High Point outhit Liberty, .484-.269. Livingston scored six opening-set kills.
The Panthers led the second set, 18-14, after a kill by Abby Broadstreet. Liberty scored the next two points, including a Goodwin/Sirena Vorster block that made it 18-16. High Point then went on a decisive 5-0 run, ultimately pulling away for a 25-19 win.
During the middle session, High Point hit .222, compared to .138 for Liberty. Livingston sent down five kills in set two.
The teams played to a 15-15 tie after 30 serves in set three, as Smith's kill capped a 3-0 Liberty run. Katie Tylman and Livingston both scored coming out of the timeout, making it 17-15. After three sideouts, High Point went on a 5-0 run to gain separation at 23-17. Livingston sealed the match with an ace, clinching set three, 25-18.
High Point outhit Liberty, .244-.091 in the third set, with the Panthers recording three blocks. Katie Doering hit .714 with five kills, while Smith connected at .667 with four kills.
The Lady Flames return to Lynchburg for their next two matches, hosting Winthrop on Friday at 7 p.m. at the Vines Center before playing host to Charleston Southern, Saturday at 2 p.m.
