
No. 21/21 Baylor Pulls Away for 5-0 Win over Liberty

In a game that was scoreless entering the bottom of the fourth, the No. 21/21 Baylor Bears scored five unanswered runs to down Liberty, 5-0, Friday at Getterman Stadium.
With the win, Baylor improves to 4-1 on the season, including 2-0 on the first day of the Getterman Classic. Liberty (3-5) split a pair of games today, downing North Texas, 1-0, earlier before falling to Baylor, 5-0 tonight.
Baylor's Kelsee Selman earned the victory, evening her record at 1-1 on the season. She allowed two hits, walking two and striking out a pair in six innings pitched. Sarah Beth Toben walked two and struck out one in the seventh inning.
For Liberty, Julia DiMartino (1-2) yielded five runs on seven hits, fanning three and walking two in four and two-third innings of work. Chandler Ball pitched the final one and one thirds, allowing two hits.
Lindsey Cargill led Baylor with a 3-for-3 performance, while Sarah Smith and Robin Landrith both went 2-for-3 with a double. Caitlin Charlton batted 1-for-2 with a double and two RBI.
Jaclyn Amader and Kaitlin McFarland had one hit apiece for the Lady Flames, while Blair Lawrence stole one base.
DiMartino and Selman staged a pitching duel early on, putting zeroes up on the scoreboard through three innings. Selman retired the first eight Lady Flames in order before Cassie Gingerich reached on an error in the top of the third. She then got Taylor to ground out for the third out.
DiMartino held down Baylor's offense into the fourth inning. Smith hit a one-out double to left center. After a walk, Landrith plated Smith with an RBI double. The Liberty right-hander fanned the next two Bears, leaving Charlton on third.
McFarland singled with one out in the top of the fifth. Pinch runner Lawrence stole second with two outs. Selman walked Taylor Mabry, before getting Taylor to pop out and end the threat.
The Bears stretched their lead to 5-0 with a four-run fifth inning rally. Smith hit a two-out RBI single, before Charlton came through with a two-run double. Ball then entered the circle, allowing an RBI single to Landrith before recording the final out.
Liberty's Sarah Robertson drew a one-out walk in the sixth, but was erased on a double play.
Ball kept the Bears off the board in the bottom of the sixth, bringing Liberty to the plate one last time.
Lawrence drew a two-out walk in the top of the seventh. Rylee Reynolds received a free pass as well, before reliever Toben struck out Katie Han to end the game.
The Lady Flames return to Getterman Stadium for two games tomorrow, starting with an 11 matchup with Northwestern State. Then, Liberty will play in a semifinal game at either 4 p.m. or 6:30 p.m., with that time and opponent to be determined on the outcome of pool play.
