As Liberty prepares for its final tournament of the regular season, Alan York of LFSN had a chance to catch up with freshman libero Margaret Latchford.
Latchford, a native of Virginia Beach, Va., leads the Lady Flames and currently ranks sixth in the Big South. She is first among conference freshmen, with 4.16 digs per set overall. She collected a season-high 29 digs on Saturday against Appalachian State, the most by a Lady Flame since Gabrielle Shipe had 29 digs against High Point on Oct. 11, 2014. In addition, her 29 digs were the most by a Liberty freshman since Karyl Bacon's 29-dig effort against Evansville, Aug. 25, 2007.
Latchford and the Lady Flames remain on the road this week, competing in the Hokie Invitational at Virginia Tech on Friday and Saturday. While in Blacksburg, Va., Liberty will face Chattanooga, Middle Tennessee and the host Virginia Tech Hokies
