The Flames were unable to match the success they had during the morning flight on Saturday and are currently tied for ninth place, following the first 36 holes of competition at the 2015 Rod Myers Invitational.
After the morning flight, Liberty found itself in the mix near the top of the leaderboard by posting a 2-over par 290 at The Golf Club (par 72, 7,139 yards). The Flames were in four place in the 14-team field.
However, the Flames were one of five teams in the field to post a higher score during the afternoon round, falling to a share of ninth place with an aggregate 12-over par 588 (290-298).
Wake Forest had the best second round improvement at nine stroke, allowing the Demon Deacons to move up to the top of the leaderboard.
Wake Forest enters tomorrow's final round with a 9-under par 567 36-hole score. The Demon Deacons' strong afternoon play allowed them to climb over tournament host Duke, who is in second place with an 8-under par 568 (286-282) on its home course.
Penn State, who shared the lead with Duke after the first round, is in third place with a 1-under par 575 (286-289). East Carolina is in fourth place with a 3-over par 579 (292-287), followed by Loyola (Md.) in fifth place with a 4-over par 580 (293-287).
A total of 13 players remain in red figures following 36 holes of play on Saturday, including Liberty's leading scorer in Isaiah Logue.
The 75-man field is currently led by Wake Forest's Will Zalatoris, who fired a 12-under par 132 (66-66). He is four shots clear of Duke's Adam Wood, who carded an 8-under par 136 (69-67).
Logue finished the morning flight tied for second place after a 5-under par 67, a new career low collegiate 18-hole total. He offset one bogey with six birdies to record the career-low round.
The 2015 Big South Freshman of the Year could not keep the pace up during the afternoon round, dropping down two spots to fourth place as he enters tomorrow's final round with a 4-under par 140 (67-73).
Liberty's other four golfers in the field are within one shot of each other entering the final 18 holes of competition.
Sophomores Hutson Chandler (74-76), Payton Taylor (77-73) and Michael DeMorat (74-76) share 43rd place with a 6-over par 150. Freshman Gabriel Lench is tied for 50th place following his first collegiate competition, ending the day at 7-over par 151 (75-76).
The Flames will return to The Duke Golf Club tomorrow morning to wrap up their first event of the 2015-16 season. Liberty will be paired up with golfers from Kansas and Maryland, going off the No. 1 tee box starting at 7:40 a.m.
