As the Liberty volleyball team continues its preparation for the 2014 season, Nick Pierce of the Liberty Flames Sports Network (LFSN) caught up with 11th-year head coach Shane Pinder, along with senior libero Gabrielle Shipe.
Shipe, a native of Orlando, Fla., has been a key contributor to Liberty's back-row defense over the last three years. She led the Lady Flames in digs as a sophomore and junior, and currently ranks 15th all-time at Liberty with 1,166 career digs. Shipe helped the Lady Flames win the Big South regular-season and postseason titles in both 2011 and 2012, making NCAA Tournament appearances both years. Pinder has totaled 185 career coaching victories, and is Liberty's all-time record holder with 105 career Big South wins.
The Lady Flames will look to regain the winning form which saw them post six straight 20-win seasons, six Big South regular-season titles and six consecutive appearances in the Big South final from 2007-12. Liberty opens its 2014 season on Aug. 29, facing San Jose State to start the Elon Pheonix Classic in Elon, N.C. Liberty will wrap up fall practice with the Blue-White Scrimmage, held next Tuesday at 7 p.m.
