Brye Ravettine, a rising sophomore on the Liberty swimming team, swam in the women's 50-meter freestyle prelims Thursday at the 2011 ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships in Palo Alto, Calif.
Ravettine touched the wall in a time of 26.48, just 0.09 seconds away from the U.S. Olympic Team Trials standard of 26.39. She finished in a tie for 64th place out of 133 swimmers in Thursday's event.
The Mahwah, N.J., native qualified for the 2011 AT&T Winter National Championships, which will take place Dec. 1-3 at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center in Atlanta, Ga.
Lady Flames Sarah McCorkle and Emily Mudd both took part in 50-meter freestyle time trials on Thursday. McCorkle clocked a lifetime-best 27.24, while Mudd finished in 29.30.
Friday's action will include a time trial swim by Liberty's Bethany Wakeley in the 100-meter butterfly. Wakeley swam a 1:03.12 during Tuesday's time trial in the same event, and is again attempting to meet the Olympic Trials standard of 1:01.99. Also, Ravettine will take another shot at the Olympic Trials 50 freestyle cut during Saturday's time trial session.
