Today, LibertyFlames.com continues its weekly question-and-answer series with the Lady Flames volleyball team, designed to give fans a unique look at the two-time defending Big South champions. Senior setter Kallie Corbin is this week's featured Lady Flame.
Kallie Corbin, one of three Liberty seniors recognized prior to last night's 3-0 victory over High Point, will graduate as one of the most decorated players in program history. The setter from Beaverton, Ore., is the only Lady Flame ever to record 4,000 assists and 1,000 digs in her career and became Liberty's first honorable mention AVCA All-American last season.
Corbin was also the 2008 Big South Player of the Year and won back-to-back Big South Championship MVP honors in 2007 and 2008. Off the court, Corbin is the vice president of Liberty's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (S.A.A.C.) and a two-time Big South Presidential Honor Roll member.
What is the most exciting thing you did this summer?
My family and I drove up to Victoria, Canada. I had never been to Canada, so it was really cool to see the history of how Victoria came to be.
If you could add a match to this year's schedule, which team would you want to play?
I would love to play Portland State. Growing up in Portland, Ore., I know a lot of those girls and I would love to introduce them to Liberty Volleyball.
What is your favorite volleyball memory?
I have many great volleyball memories, but I would say beating Winthrop in 2007 to stop their Big South reign.
How many text messages do you send per month?
Too many.
Who is your best friend currently playing collegiate volleyball for another team, and who do they play for?
A lot of my good friends graduated last year, but I am very good friends with Ashley Mellott, who played for High Point. It was awesome to play against her every year!
What is your favorite vacation spot?
I love going on cruises and going to anything Disney.
What is your favorite Bible verse and why?
Jeremiah 17:7.
"Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord for his confidence is in you."
I repeat this to myself whenever I feel troubled in any situation. I have been trying to live by this verse for a long time.
What is your favorite food?
I am a volleyball player. I love ALL food! However, if I had to choose, I would say mac and cheese.
My dream beach volleyball partner would be …
Karyl Bacon!! She rocks my world on the court and her vertical is off the charts!
Do you have any pre-match habits/rituals, and what are they?
I always have a hair band, I put chapstick on and I tape my ankle braces and write a verse on each one. I like to take showers before home matches. I slap the door frame when running out of the locker room, and I say a prayer.
The most impressive thing about Coach Pinder is …
His ability to motivate us. I have had many coaches who try really hard to motivate players, but it comes naturally for Coach to get us going!
What is the best advice you have ever received, and who gave it to you?
"Why be mediocre when you can be exceptional?"- Coach Pinder
