McCarty Makes Fourth All-Tournament Team

For the fourth weekend in a row, Liberty junior middle blocker Chelaine McCarty is taking home a piece of tournament hardware. McCarty was named to the all-tournament team, after helping the Lady Flames win one of their three matches at the Golden Dome Invitational in South Bend, Ind.
McCarty (Houston, Ala.) was previously included on all-tournament teams at the VCU Third Degree Sportswear Invitational, Patriot Invitational and Varney's Kansas State Invitational. She becomes the second Lady Flame in as many years to garner four all-tournament recognitions within the regular season. In 2007, McCarty's classmate Kallie Corbin (S, Beaverton, Ore.) was voted to four all-tournament teams to begin the season.
Western Michigan's Jaime Gotham was recognized as tournament MVP, after helping the Broncos erase a 2-0 deficit to defeat host Notre Dame and claim the Golden Dome Invitational title on Sunday.
McCarty reached double figures in the kill column in all three of the Lady Flames' weekend contests, totaling a team-high 33 kills for the tournament. She hit .308 on the weekend and saved her best all-around performance for last. McCarty paced all players with 12 kills, hit .370 and had a hand in four of Liberty's 12 blocks versus UC Irvine on Sunday. Her performance helped the Lady Flames sweep the Anteaters in straight sets, giving Liberty its first-ever win against a Division I volleyball team from California.
For the season, McCarty is leading the team with a .367 attack percentage and ranks second on the Liberty roster with 130 kills. The Alabama native has been a consistent offensive threat for head coach Shane Pinder. She has posted at least nine kills in all but one match this season and has hit .300 or higher in 10 of 13 outings.
McCarty and the Lady Flames will open defense of their Big South title Friday at 7 p.m., when Liberty travels to Charleston Southern.
