McCarty, Scripko Make All-Tournament Team

Chelaine McCarty and Nicki Scripko of the Liberty volleyball team have been named to the VCU Third Degree Sportswear Invitational all-tournament team. The duo helped the Lady Flames win all three weekend matches, making Liberty the tournament's only unbeaten team.
Liberty opened the VCU Third Degree Sportswear Invitational with a 3-0 sweep of N.C. State on Friday. The Lady Flames then posted a 3-2 decision over Central Michigan and a 3-1 victory over Maryland on Saturday, opening the 2008 season with a 3-0 record. Liberty enjoyed its first unbeaten invitational since the 1997 campaign.
Both McCarty (Jr., MB, Houston, Ala.) and Scripko (So., OH, Fayetteville, N.C.) made the all-tournament team at an in-season invitational for the first time in their respective careers. During the tournament, McCarty ranked second on the team in kills (31), attack percentage (.297) and blocks (9). Meanwhile, Scripko made a successful move to outside hitter. She paced the Lady Flames with 32 kills, tied for the team lead with five aces and ranked third with 29 digs.
The Lady Flames, who are off to a 3-0 start for the first time since moving to the NCAA Division I level in 1988, will return to action at the Patriot Invitational, hosted by George Mason. Liberty will face Saint Francis (Pa.) in its first match of the tournament, Friday at 11 a.m.
