Former Campbell pitcher Megan Richards joined Dot Richardson’s Liberty softball coaching staff in the summer of 2021 and currently serves as a graduated assistant.
In her current role as graduate assistant, Richards assists the Liberty coaching staff in all aspects of running a successful NCAA Division I softball program.
A native of Lynchburg, Va. and Rustburg High School, Richards pitched for five seasons (2017-20) at Campbell. She finished her collegiate career with a 45-37 record, 44 complete games, eight shutouts, 342 strikeouts and a 3.70 ERA in 507 2/3 innings pitched. Richards is ranked fifth all-time at Campbell with in career wins and saves (7), seventh in strikeouts,
Richards led the Camels in wins during both her sophomore (17-13) and junior (15-13) seasons, recording a career-high four shutouts in 2019. Her senior year (2021) saw her post a 7-2 record, 1.55 ERA, three shutouts and a .222 opponents batting average, as the Camels won the Big South title before competing in the NCAA Stillwater Regional.
She was a standout in the classroom as well, receiving Student-Athlete of the Year for SHAPE and exercise science student of the year honors.
Richards, a health and physical education major at Campbell, earned experience in the field through observation, shadowing and designing and implementing lesson plans. She has also assisted with Miracle League and Special Olympics events.
Richards graduated from Campbell in 2021 with her bachelor’s degree in health and physical education. At Liberty, she is pursing a master’s degree in interdisciplinary studies with cognates in education and exercise science.
