
LU Trails Pack on Day One at BSC Championship

Coastal Carolina (297) holds a seven-stroke advantage over Gardner-Webb (304) through the first round at the Big South Conference Men's Golf Championship, hosted by Coastal Carolina, at the par-72, 7,079-yard The Patriot Club, located in Ninety-Six, S.C. Liberty (318) occupies last place (eighth), 21 strokes behind the leader after play concluded on Monday.
Preston Dembowiak (76) is tied for 12th and pacing the Flame five at four over par. It was a rocky opening round for the remainder of the Liberty team, as all-conference honoree Robert Karlsson (80) is tied for 26th and fellow all-conference honoree Tobias Pettersson (81) and Nathan Schenz-Davis (81) each are tied for 29th. Jay Calvo (83) rounds out the final Liberty five tied for 35th out of 40 total golfers.
Winthrop's Cipariano Ayala (72) shot even-par to lead all individuals. Coastal Carolina's David Dannelly (73) holds down second place, one stroke behind the leader, while there is a sixth-way tie for third place, two strokes off the lead. Coastal Carolina's Tripp McAllister, Winthrop's Kelly Manders, Presbyterian's Patrick Coleman, Charleston Southern's Kelvin Day, Radford's Lane Hite and High Point's D.J. Dougherty all share the third-place distinction.
Following team leader Coastal Carolina and second place Gardner-Webb, Winthrop (307) and Presbyterian (307) are tied for third place. Charleston Southern (310) cashes in on the first day in the fifth-place slot.
