
Flames Have 4 in Top 25 at Lewis Chitengwa Memorial

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Liberty has four golfers ranked inside the top 25 of the individual standings following two rounds of play at the Lewis Chitengwa Memorial on Monday.
Luke Libbey leads the way after signing for a 36-hole total of 5-under par 137 (69-68) following two trips around the Birdwood Golf Course (par 72, 7,116 yards). He is currently tied for seventh place.
Libbey posted back-to-back rounds in the 60s for the first time in the sophomore's career thanks to playing the par-5 holes at a scoring average of 4.25 (-6).
Silas Haarer is one stroke behind Libbey and is tied for ninth place with a 4-under par 138 (69-69). The freshman currently ranks fifth in the field in par-4 scoring (3.83 average/-3).
Ike Joy is one shot back of Haarer and is tied for 13th place with a 3-under par 139 (68-71). The graduate student opened the event with this third sub-70 round of the season.
Hogan had the round of the day with a career-low 5-under par 66 during the afternoon flight, which included an eagle on the par-5, No. 12 hole (549 yards). Overall, the sophomore is tied for 22nd place with a 1-under par 141 (75-66).
All nine members of Liberty's roster are competing in the event, hosted by No. 2 Virginia. Joy is part of Liberty's starting five golfers, while Libbey, Haarer and Hogan are all competing as individuals.
As a team, Liberty enters tomorrow's final round in ninth place with a 6-over par 574 (282-292). The Flames were keeping pace with the nationally ranked teams in the 12-team field following an opening round 2-under par 282, but Liberty fell down the leaderboard with a 10-shot difference in the second round.
No. 2 Virginia currently leads the field after firing a 22-under par 546 (227-269) on its home course.
No. 45 SMU is in second place with an 18-under par 550 (279-271), followed by No. 14 Tennessee (16-under par 552/272-280) and No. 25 Florida State (16-under par 552/268-284).
Play gets back underway tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m., with Liberty's starting five golfers heading off the No. 10 (par 5, 615 yards) at 8:55 a.m.
