Tornati & Tomasi Earn BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll Recognition

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Julieta Tornati and Josefina Tomasi both earned BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll recognition after their performances in a pair of Liberty road victories this past weekend.
Both players are being honored in the weekly awards for the first time in 2026. Tornati is now a three-time BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll recipient, while Tomasi notches her second career nod. Tornati and Tomasi join teammate Dara Semmartin as weekly award winners so far this season. Semmartin was tabbed to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll a week ago.
Tornati, a sophomore midfielder/defender, led the charge for the Lady Flames in road wins at Saint Joseph's and James Madison, pacing the squad in goals (2) and points (5) and sharing the team lead in assists (1). In Sunday's dramatic 2-1 overtime win at JMU, Tornati was involved in both goals. She scored the first goal of the game, a flick into the left side of the cage on a penalty corner, at the 41:26 mark. It was her third goal of the year, tied for most on the squad. In the overtime session, Tornati sent a perfect ball to Tomasi for the game winner at the 70:40 mark.
In four games this year, Tornati shares the team lead with three goals and paces the team in points with seven. In Friday's 5-1 win at Saint Joseph's, she put the visitors ahead 3-0 in the 36th minute with a penalty corner tally. Tornati and the Liberty defense yielded only two goals and 14 shots in 130:40 of action over the weekend.
Tomasi, a junior forward, was the hero in the Lady Flames' overtime triumph at JMU, scoring the game winner in the 71st minute. Tomasi redirected a ball sent in front of the cage from Tornati to end the game. The goal was her first of the campaign and 15th in 42 career games.
In the road triumph over Saint Joseph's, Tomasi assisted on Pia Iapichino's first career goal in the 42nd minute. She added her second defensive save of the season (and sixth of her career) as well in the second quarter.
Tornati, Tomasi and No. 13-ranked Liberty (3-1) will face No. 11 Virginia (2-1) in their home opener, Friday evening. Game time is 5 p.m. at the Liberty Field Hockey Field.
