Tomasi’s OT Winner Lifts No. 14 Liberty Past JMU, 2-1

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Josefina Tomasi's overtime game-winning goal lifted No. 14 Liberty past James Madison 2-1, Sunday afternoon in a Commonwealth matchup at the JMU Field Hockey Complex.
Tomasi's first goal of the 2026 campaign came via a penalty corner feed from Julieta Tornati. Tomasi's redirect from in front of the cage zipped past JMU goalkeeper Lilly Sweeney at the 70:40 mark to secure the road victory for Liberty.
Liberty caps off a 2-0 road weekend. The Lady Flames bolster their overall record to 3-1, with all four games being played away from home. Meanwhile, JMU (0-3) is still in search of its first victory of the season.
This was the first-ever overtime game between the Lady Flames and Dukes in what was the 10th all-time meeting between the two squads.

Liberty outshot James Madison 9-2 in the first half led in penalty corners 5-0 but did not get on the scoreboard until breaking through in the 42nd minute. Dara Semmartin set up Julieta Tornati's goal, with Tornati flicking a shot off the inside of the left post and into the cage for her third goal of the year.
JMU knotted the score at 1-1 early in the fourth quarter, with Brynna Hill lifted a shot past Liberty netminder Diane Saint Martin on the near post at the 46:44 mark.
In overtime, the two teams each earned a penalty corner but could not convert. It was the Lady Flames' second corner of the frame that netted the game winner from Josefina Tomasi. Tornati's offering to the front was redirected by Tomasi into the goal for the 2-1 win.
