Field Hockey’s Iudicello Earns BIG EAST Freshman of Week Award

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Liberty field hockey's Clarisa Iudicello has earned the BIG EAST Conference Freshman of the Week award, announced Tuesday afternoon by the league office.
This is Iudicello's first career BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honor. In addition to Iudicello's honor, sophomore Julieta Tornati has been selected to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor roll for the second consecutive week. Iudicello and Tornati's recognitions come following strong performances in Liberty's first two home games this past weekend.
Iudicello, a midfielder/forward from Córdoba, Argentina, scored four goals in two games against No. 11 Virginia and Longwood. In Sunday's 8-0 Senior Day win for No. 13 Liberty over Longwood, the rookie notched her first career hat trick. She scored all three goals after halftime, finding the back of the cage in the 36th, 50th and 58th minutes. Iudicello led the team with 10 shots, six on goal, in the match, and the Lady Flames set a new program single-game record with 51 total shots against the Lancers.
In Liberty's narrow 2-1 setback to No. 11 UVA on Friday, the freshman scored the hosts' lone goal of the day. She scored on a crossing pass from senior Luna Prieri in the 38th minute, evening the match at 1-1. In six games this year, Iudicello leads the squad with five goals and shares the team lead with 10 points. She ranks tied for fourth in the BIG EAST and tied for 27th nationally in goals per game (0.83).
Tornati notched a goal and an assist for three points in two games. In the 8-0 shutout victory against Longwood, the midfielder/defender finished with one goal and one assist. Tornati assisted on Pia Iapichino's 19th minute tally and later scored her second penalty stroke goal of the year (58:04 mark) in the final two minutes of the contest.
Tornati ranks second on the team with four goals, tied for second in assists with two and tied for first in points with 10. Tornati and the Liberty defense picked up their second shutout of 2026 in the triumph over the Lancers. Longwood managed only two total shots (one on goal) and one penalty corner. The sophomore attempted two shots in the contest versus No. 11 Virginia, last Friday.
Liberty has received five BIG EAST weekly awards through three weeks of the 2026 campaign.
Iudicello, Tornati and No. 13 Liberty (4-2) will continue their current homestand by taking on the Miami (Ohio) Redhawks (2-3), Saturday afternoon. Match time is noon from the Liberty Field Hockey Field.
