The Flames will continue their four-event fall schedule next week when they start play at the Bearcat Invitational on Monday.
The event is the second-straight new tournament to Liberty's fall slate. The tournament is hosted by Cincinnati at the Coldstream Country Club (par 71, 7,279 yards) in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Liberty opened the 2026-27 season with a 10th place finish at the Visit Knoxville Collegiate (Aug. 31 to Sept. 1) at the Fox Den Country Club (par 70, 6,962 yards) in Knoxville, Tenn.
The tournament field included 13 teams who advance to the NCAA Regionals in 2026 and eight teams who finished last year ranked inside the top 50.
Liberty's Luke Libbey had a career-best showing at the Tennessee hosted event. The junior carded a 3-under par 207 (74-65-68) to finish in a tie for 13th place.
This was Libbey's first top 20 finish as a part of Liberty's starting lineup and included a new career low with a 5-under par 65 during the first day of play.
Following the event, Libbey was named the first Conference USA Men's Golfer of the Week of the season.
Fellow Flames' junior Michael Lugiano followed behind Libbey, finishing tied for 23rd place with a 1-under par 209 (69-70-70).
The Bearcat Invitational started in 2011 and is being contested for the 12th time in tournament history in 2026. Cincinnati won this event in 2025 with an 11-stroke victory.
This year's 17-team tournament field features 14 programs who finished last season ranked inside the 100 in the final 2025-26 national rankings.
Liberty will see a pair of teams for the second time this season, as Memphis and Chattanooga also opened their seasons at the Visit Knoxville Collegiate along with the Flames.
Memphis finished as the event's runner-up with an 11-under par 829 (281-272-276), while Chattanooga finished tied for third two shots behind the Tigers with a 9-under par 831 (277-275-279).
Play gets underway on Monday at 9 a.m. with all 17 teams hitting the Coldstream Country Club at 9 a.m. for a shotgun start. The tournament will feature 36 holes of continuous play on Monday, followed by the final 18 holes on Tuesday morning.
