
Flames Set the Pace During Day 1 of Bearcat Invitational

CINCINNATI, Ohio – Liberty came out firing during the morning flight and sits atop the leaderboard following the first 36 holes of action at the Bearcat Invitational on Monday.
Liberty opened the Cincinnati-hosted tournament with a 10-under par 274 during its first time at the Coldstream Country Club (par 71, 7,279 yards).
Following the afternoon round, Liberty leads the 17-team field with a 14-under par 554 (274-280).
The Flames enter tomorrow's final round three shots clear of TCU, who finished play on Monday with an 11-under par 557 (283-274).
The Horned Frogs matched Liberty's 10-under par during the second round to move closer to the Flames and create some separation on the leaderboard.
Three teams are currently tied for third place with a 6-under par 562: Memphis (279-283), Louisville (280-282) and Augusta (283-279).
A pair of juniors helped the Flames climb to the top of the leaderboard with consistent strong play on Monday.
Michael Lugiano is tied for first place in the 96-man field after finishing play on Monday with a 7-under par 135 (66-69).
Lugiano posted his 19th and 20th career sub-70 rounds on the day and his morning score matched the lowest 18 holes of the junior's collegiate career.
Libbey is two shots off the pace set by Lugiano. He is tied for sixth place with a 5-under par 137 (68-69) after ranking second in the field with 11 birdies on Monday.
Rounding out Liberty's three players who finished the day in red figures is Noah Maclauchlan, who is tied for 26th place with a 1-under par 141 (66-75).
The 17-team field will return to the Coldstream Country Club on Tuesday morning to begin Round 3 of the Bearcat Invitational with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. ET.
