VERO BEACH, Fla. – Following a lineup adjustment and a challenging second round, No. 17 Liberty finds itself in ninth place heading into the final round of the 2026 Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational.
Liberty broke into the national polls last week (No. 17 – Scoreboard powered by Clippd; No. 20 – Bushnell/Golfweek DI Coaches' Poll), but the Flames are playing their final event of the fall schedule without junior Michael Lugiano (70.22 season stroke average).
The Flames opened the morning flight with a 1-under par 287 at the Quail Valley Golf Club (par 72, 7,401 yards) in Vero Beach, Fla.
However, Liberty was unable to replicate the score during the afternoon round, carding an 11-over par 299 to fall into ninth place on the 15-team leaderboard.
Scores across the board were higher during the afternoon flight – Round 1 scoring average (73.50); Round 2 scoring average (74.33) – with only two teams finding red figures.
No. 19 Kansas holds the clubhouse lead after play on Sunday, with the Jayhawks matching Liberty's 12-stroke difference between the two rounds.
Kansas sits atop the leaderboard with an overall 4-under par 572 (280-292) and holds a three-stroke edge over Minnesota (1-under par 575/288-287). The two teams were the only programs to finish the day in red figures.
