The Lady Flames are now 1-0-2 in their last three contests against Virginia Tech. They are 1-0-1 in Blacksburg during that span.
Liberty drew first blood in the first 10 minutes off a corner opportunity. Midfielder Isabella Wedemeyer streaked into the center of the penalty area that was lobbed towards the net. The ball passed a diving Hokie goalkeeper while a list-line defender attempted to deflect the ball, but she sent the ball into the top of the net.

The Hokies evened the contest in the 33rd minute off Lilli Lubic's first tally of the 2026 season. Eliana Salama found Lubic on an entry pass, slipping past the Liberty back line. Liberty goalkeeper Ainsley Leja aggressively came out to defend, but Lubic's shot was sent over her.
The Lady Flames retook the lead in the waning minutes of the first half. In the 43rd minute, Garner dribbled the ball through the midfield with plenty of space. Once she neared the penalty area, she sent a blistering try into the near corner for her first score of the season.

The Hokies came out firing in the second half, applying hefty pressure in Liberty's defensive end. The aggression paid off, earning a corner kick and drawing a yellow card off midfielder Avenley Monteith. Virginia Tech rocketed a near free kick that Leja was unable to corral, the rebound directed out to Anna Weir who buried the equalizing tally.
Liberty pressed offensively in the latter end of the second half, coming close on multiple near chances. The Lady Flames totaled four shots that hit either the post or crossbar, with three in the final 30 minutes of the contest.
Thoughts from Head Coach Lang Wedemeyer
"It was a typical game against Virginia Tech, very hard-fought, back-and-forth event, shifts in momentum through the game. I thought we played well enough to win. We just got to make a few more plays.
On takeaways from earning a draw on the road
"As good as Virginia Tech is, and they played really well for that 1st 20 minutes of the second half, I think we all know that we let this game get away from us. We have kind of a bad taste in our mouth right now. Uh, and so hopefully we can channel that into some motivation for the next game."
