Engle’s Early Score Guides Liberty to Road Win at VCU

RICHMOND, Va. – Halle Engle's first goal of the season was all the Lady Flames (2-1-1) needed to come home victorious with a 1-0 triumph at VCU (0-4) on Sunday afternoon. Liberty secured a 1-0-1 week following Thursday night's 2-2 draw at Virginia Tech.
Following a turnover caused by midfielder Avenley Monteith, freshman Audrey Heustis served a touch pass in front of Engle. The forward gained a step on her defender, sliding her attempt just past the VCU goalkeeper. The assist for Heustis marks the first point of her collegiate and Liberty career.
Liberty maintained a consistent offensive push through the 90-minute affair. Liberty recorded 13 corners while shutting out the Rams in the category. The Lady Flames also held a 21-4 advantage in shots with five on goal. Starting goalkeeper Ainsley Leja recorded a single save in the contest.
The Lady Flames enter the win column for the first time since their season-opening victory over East Carolina on Aug. 13.
Liberty improves to 7-12-1 all-time against VCU and extends its winning streak over the Rams to three games.
