
Liberty Drops to 5th Place After Day 2 of CUSA Men’s Golf Championship

TEXARKANA, Ark. – The Flames will have some work to do to advance to the match play portion of the 2026 CUSA Men's Golf Championship after falling to fifth place on Tuesday.
Liberty was able to post a second consecutive under-par score at the Texarkana Country Club (par 72, 6,969 yards). The team signed for a 2-under par 286 to give the Flames an overall score of 6-under par 570 (284-286).
However, the course played more than a stroke easier on Tuesday (Round 1 scoring average: 73.13; Round 2 scoring average: 71.89), allowing several teams to move up the leaderboard.
The biggest movers on the day were WKU, who carded an 8-under par 280, and MTSU, who posted a 10-under par 278, allowing both teams to jump the Flames on the leaderboard.
Liberty will need to finish as one of the top four teams following tomorrow's final round of stroke play to advance to the match play portion of the championship event.
The top four teams in the event will square off against each other in two rounds of match play to determine who wins the 2026 CUSA Men's Golf Championship on Thursday.
UTEP continues to pace the 11-team field and stands in first place with a 26-under par 550 (279-271), followed by New Mexico State's 20-under par 556 (279-277).
WKU vaulted into third place with a 9-under par 567 (287-280) and is three shots clear of the Flames, while MTSU is just one shot ahead of Liberty with a 7-under par 569 (291-278).
Kennesaw State also remains in the mix as they are behind Liberty in sixth place with a 5-under par 571 (285-286). This leaves four teams within four shots of each other for the final two spots in the match play field.
Seniors Josh Ryan and Ike Joy both posted sub-par rounds on Tuesday to keep the Flames in the hunt for the conference title. Both golfers carded a 1-under par 71 during round two.
Ryan is currently tied for 10th place with a 3-under par 141 (70-71), while Joy is tied for 30th place with a 1-over par 145 (74-71).
The Flames will be paired with golfers from MTSU and Kennesaw State during tomorrow's final round of stroke play at the CUSA Men's Golf Championship. Liberty heads off the No. 1 tee starting at 10 a.m. ET/9 a.m. CT.
