
Liberty MBB Announces Addition of Garcia-Araujo

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Liberty Flames men's basketball team and head coach Ritchie McKay have announced the signing of Osmar Garcia-Araujo for the 2026-27 season.
Garcia-Araujo is a 6-7 forward from Caracas, Venezuela who will be transferring from Anderson (SC) (Division II).
"Osmar is one of those dudes that you just love being around. He's got a joyful spirit and a super magnetic personality," McKay said. "He's a really good basketball player who wants to win the game, and that shows up in his sacrificial nature."
Garcia-Araujo spent his junior season at Anderson (SC), and prior to that, he spent two seasons at Division II Lincoln Memorial. He attended Sugar Hill High School in Lanier, Ga.
In his one season with the Anderson Trojans, Garcia-Araujo led the squad to a 29-3 overall record, No. 5 national ranking, No. 1 Southeast Regional ranking, first-ever South Atlantic Conference (SAC) Championship title and a Division II NCAA Tournament appearance while appearing in all 32 games (31 starts). The forward averaged 16.5 points (No. 2 on team), 7.0 rebounds (No. 1 on team), 2.7 assists and 1.1 steals in 27.4 minutes per game. He shot 65.7 percent from the field and 73.1 percent from the free throw line.
Garcia-Araujo earned All-SAC first team honors and was named to Bevo Francis Award Top Watch 50 Watch list, an award presented annually to the player who has had the finest overall season within Small College Basketball. He also earned NABC Southeast District first team and SAC All-Tournament team recognitions.
Prior to his time at Anderson, Garcia-Araujo spent two seasons at Lincoln Memorial, appearing in 57 games with nine starts. As a sophomore during the 2024-25 season, he averaged 6.9 points per game on 62.2 percent shooting along with 2.8 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game in 27 appearances (four starts). In 2023-24 as a freshman, Garcia-Araujo made 31 appearances (five starts) and averaged 6.7 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. Lincoln Memorial posted a 49-15 combined record and a pair of Division II NCAA Tournament appearances.
Garcia-Araujo is the fifth commitment for the Flames in this year's transfer portal, along with brothers Cobi and Cooper Campbell (Troy), Dillon Claussen (Washburn) and Sean Register Jr. (Eastern Florida State).
