LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Liberty men's basketball program and head coach Ritchie McKay have announced the addition of Cooper Campbell for the 2026-27 season.
Campbell is a 6-1 guard from Puyallup, Wash. who will be transferring from Troy. He is the younger brother of fellow signee Cobi Campbell, who is also transferring from Troy.
"Cooper is at the top of the board of someone we'd want in our program because of the way he plays. Offensively, he can score at all levels, creates for his teammates and is a tough defender. Having coached his dad, I'm super excited he's a part of our program."
Campbell spent the past two years at Troy, who won back-to-back Sun Belt Championship titles in his two years there. This past year (2025-26), he started 33 of 34 games, averaging 33.9 minutes, 12.5 points, 4.2 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game. He shot 43.2 percent from the field and 39.1 percent from three, finishing second on the team with 68 triples. Campbell was a 83.1 percent free throw shooter for the season. He scored a career-high 32 points in a triple overtime loss at USC.
During his freshman season (2024-25), Campbell appeared in all 34 games with three starts, averaging 5.2 points in 16.6 minutes per game while connecting on 35.6 percent from long range.
The Campbell brothers' father, Scott, was an assistant coach for Troy. Scott Campbell played collegiately at Seattle Pacific, the same place Flames head coach Ritchie McKay played. He played for a year under McKay in 1990-91 when McKay was an assistant at Seattle Pacific.
Campbell is the second commitment for the Flames in this year's transfer portal, joining his brother Cobi Campbell.
