LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Liberty Flames men's basketball squad and head coach Ritchie McKay have announced the signing of Cobi Campbell for the 2026-27 campaign.
Campbell is a 6-2 guard from Puyallup, Wash. who will be transferring from Troy. He is the older brother of fellow signee Cooper Campbell, who is also transferring from Troy.
"Cobi has a great basketball acumen and IQ. I also think we'll benefit from his experience," McKay said. "I think he's a quiet leader who understands the game and the team and its connectivity."
Campbell spent the past two years at Troy, who won back-to-back Sun Belt Championship titles and made a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances in his two years there. This past season (2025-26), he appeared in 33 games with 31 starts, averaging 9.0 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 27.8 minutes per game. Campbell led the team with 70 three-pointers, connecting at a 40 percent clip, and shot 81.3 percent from the free throw line.
Prior to his time at Troy, he played for North Idaho College for two seasons (2023-24 and 2022-23). As a sophomore there, he played in and started 26 games, averaging 11.3 points in 29.5 minutes per game. He also averaged 3.2 apg and 3.2 rpg. During the 2022-23 season, his freshman year, he played in 20 games with 19 starts while averaging 16.9 ppg on 52.4 percent shooting from three-point range. He also added 3.3 rpg and 2.8 apg and scored a season-high 41 points.
The Campbell brothers' father, Scott, was an assistant coach for Troy. Scott Campbell played collegiately at Seattle Pacific, the same place Flames head coach Ritchie McKay played. He played for a year under McKay in 1990-91 when McKay was an assistant at Seattle Pacific.
Campbell is the first commitment for the Flames in this year's transfer portal.
