LYNCHBURG, Va. – Kendyl Smith, a sharpshooting point guard from Michigan, has signed with the Liberty women's basketball team for the 2026-27 academic year.
Smith becomes the fourth incoming freshman who will join the Lady Flames this fall, also including Peace Ashina (G, 6-0, Snellville, Ga.), Trinity Holsinger (G, 5-7, Eagle, Idaho) and Amari Worsham (G, 6-0, Roanoke, Va.).
Kendyl Smith (G, 5-9, Flint, Mich.)
A senior at Powers Catholic High School, Smith was a finalist for the Michigan Miss Basketball award. The all-time leading scorer at Powers Catholic (boys' or girls'), Smith is one of eight girls' basketball players in Michigan history to tally more than 1,500 points and 500 assists during her high school career.
Smith's high school totals included 1,759 points, 461 rebounds, 536 assists and 288 steals. She was also a prolific three-point shooter, totaling 271 triples at a 34.1 percent clip during her four years of high school action.
During her senior campaign, Smith averaged 18.7 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 4.5 apg and 2.7 spg, earning Flint-area Player of the Year and Saginaw Valley League South MVP honors.
Smith led her team to the Michigan Division 2 state semifinals as a senior, scoring a game-high 32 points in that contest. Her squads posted an 88-15 record during her four years of high school.
"I chose Liberty because it instantly felt like a family," Smith stated. "I knew it was the right place for me, a program where I can grow as a player, express my faith, and be surrounded by people who support both. I just knew this is where God wanted me."
What They're Saying About Kendyl Smith
"I am excited to welcome Kendyl to Liberty. She's the kind of student-athlete who fits exactly what we're building here—an elite long-range shooter who can stretch the floor, but more importantly, a young woman of outstanding character. Coming from a strong Christian family, she already understands the values that matter most in our program: faith, discipline and putting others first. We believe she's going to make an immediate impact on the court with her shooting ability, and an even greater impact off the court with the way she represents our team and our mission."
