LYNCHBURG, Va. – Liberty senior outfielder Brynn McManus has been named Conference USA Softball Player of the Week, announced Monday.
A native of McMinnville, Ore., McManus earns her first career CUSA Player of the Week honor. She is the second Lady Flame to be named CUSA Player of the Week this season, as Savannah Jessee received the honor on Feb. 23.
McManus had a sensational week at the plate, helping Liberty to four straight road victories including a series sweep at Middle Tennessee. For the week, she batted 6-for-11 (.545) with one double, three homers, five RBI, seven runs scored, a .571 on base percentage and 1.455 slugging percentage.
On Tuesday at James Madison, McManus went 2-for-3 with a homer, one RBI and two runs scored. In the sixth inning, her homer (the third of a back-to-back-to-back homer barrage) proved to be the game winner in a 9-8 victory.
She then batted 2-for-2 with a sacrifice fly, homer, three RBI and two runs scored in a 10-5 win over Middle Tennessee on Friday. McManus got Liberty on the board with a sacrifice fly in the first and added a solo homer in the third and an RBI single in the fourth.
On Saturday, she went 1-for-2 with a double and two runs scored in a 9-0 win. Then on Sunday, she batted 1-for-4 with a homer, one run and one RBI in an 8-6 victory. She homered to provide insurance in a four-run sixth inning as Liberty came back for the win.
The Lady Flames (11-15, 4-2 CUSA) continue their eight-game road trip this week, playing a three-game series at UTEP, Thursday through Saturday.
