LYNCHBURG, VA. – The Liberty Flames erupted for six runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to take a 10-5 lead and went on to defeat the Hofstra Pride 10-7 to achieve a sweep at Worthington Field at Liberty Baseball Stadium Sunday.
Flames first baseman Jaxon Sorenson tied the game with his first home run of the year to lead off the home half of the eighth. Liberty later pushed across five two-out runs, highlighted by a bases-clearing double by designated hitter Riley DeCandido, to take a commanding five-run advantage.
Liberty outfielder Nick Barone went 3-for-4 with his first home run of the season in the contest. DeCandido added two hits, three RBI and a run scored for the Flames.
With the win, Liberty extends its winning streak to five games. The Flames move to 7-3 on the season. Hofstra drops to 0-6.
