Flames Fall to Bulldogs, 4-3, in Middle Game of Season-Opening Series
2/14/2026 10:27:00 PM | Baseball
Liberty would eventually dropped a 4-3 decision to The Citadel, Saturday afternoon, at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.
Following the Barone eighth-inning double, the Bulldogs leadoff hitter Aryan Patel doubled down the left field line, scoring Jayden Williams.
Patel advanced to third on a throw to the plate and scored on a throwing error by Flames' catcher Kyle Hvidsten to put the home team up by two, 4-2.
Liberty mounted one last charge in the top of the ninth inning, thanks to a leadoff double by Dylan Grabowski and an infield single by Josh Campos to put runners on the corners with no outs.
Grabowski scored on a fielder's choice play off the bat of Tanner Marsh. However, The Citadel's Michael Gibson secured his first win of the season with his seventh strikeout of the game and a flyout to halt the attempted comeback to end the ninth.
Barone (2-for-2 with a run scored and a RBI) and Campos (2-for-4) accounted for four of Liberty's five hits in the game. Grabowski recorded the last as he was 1-of-4 on the day with a run scored.
With the one-run victory by The Citadel, both team's records in 2026 now stand at 1-1 heading into tomorrow's series finale.
