Liberty to Compete in Tribe Invitational, Host Radford on Monday

Liberty (5-1) competes in the Tribe Invitational in Williamsburg, Va., this weekend. The Lady Flames will take on Norfolk State, East Carolina and William & Mary on the weekend before opening the home slate on Monday against Radford."

- The Lady Flames are led by first-year head coach Jeremy White, who coached Southeastern Louisiana to back-to-back SLC titles in 2022 and 2023.
- Liberty beat Rutgers on Aug. 30, the team's first-ever win over a Big Ten program. The Lady Flames then went 2-1 at the West Virginia Invitational, with their lone loss coming to the host Mountaineers.
- The Lady Flames rank second in CUSA with a .305 hitting percentage and have already hit .300 or better more times this year (three) than all of 2024 (two).
- Freshmen Ali Bierwagen and Laney Daniell were both named to the West Virginia Invitational All-Tournament Team.
- Paige Overcash was named CUSA Offensive Player of the Week for the second straight week, the first Lady Flame since 2014 (Caroline Douglas - Big South) to win back-to-back player of the week honors.
- Overcash leads CUSA with a .435 attack percentage. She scored a career-high 21 kills against Coppin State last Friday
- Bierwagen recorded double-doubles in all three matches in West Virginia. She dished out a career-high 49 assists on Friday against Coppin State.
- Jenna Otts scored 19 kills on Thursday against Coppin State before posting 18 kills at a .586 pace versus West Virginia, Friday.
- Liberty outhit West Virginia .346-.345 on Friday. It was the first time since Oct. 20, 2012 against Winthrop that both Liberty and its opponent hit .300 or better in the same match.
- Liberty's 4-0 start to this season was its best undefeated start to a campaign since winning each of its first eight matches in 2023.
- On Aug. 30, Liberty overcame a 2-0 deficit for the first time since 2016, beating Rutgers. The Lady Flames then beat Coppin State 3-2 in their next match, marking the first time since Nov. 17-18, 2022 (vs. Stetson, Lipscomb) the Liberty won back-to-back matches by 3-2 scores.
- Jeremy White begins his first season at Liberty. He served as head coach at Southeastern Louisiana for the last six years, posting a 113-58 record and leading the Lions to two NCAA Tournaments. Last year, Southeastern posted a nation-leading 24-match winning streak. White is a three-time Southland Conference Coach of the Year and four-time LSWA Louisiana Coach of the Year.
- Former Tulsa head coach Ryan Wills (2014-22) serves as an assistant coach on White's staff. Mackenzie Martin is in her first year as an assistant coach after finishing her collegiate playing career at The Citadel last season.
- Prior to this year's opening day, the last time Liberty hit .300 or better in back-to-back matches was Nov. 6-13, 2022, when the Lady Flames hit .300+ in three straight contests.
- With Liberty's roster turnover over the last two years, junior Charli Morris is the only Lady Flame on the 2025 roster left over from the 2023 season.
- Liberty welcomes 11 newcomers this season, including four transfers. Graduate students Zoe Hall (TCU) and Shyia Richardson (Louisiana) join the Lady Flames, along with junior Molly Littlefield (Gardner-Webb) and sophomore Layla Collins (Virginia Tech).
- Freshman Kayla O'Brien joins her older sister, sophomore Carly O'Brien, on the Lady Flames' roster. They are the first pair of sisters to play for Liberty Volleyball in the same season since Abby and Kate Phillips in 2021.
